House

Another very welcome addition our own car- A Honda CRV
I think it is pink, Alex says purple, but most importantly it is a 4x4, has air conditioning and was cheaper than our ford focus!
This is our house – if you look closely you can see Pumba on the veranda

This is one of those advertisement shots!

You can see the disadvantage of only bringing 4 bags with us and this is after being here over a month!

Random room that houses the fridge with lots of lovely photos of all of you on it.

Kitchen + units - at last – notice the bleached lines on the floor, that was me having fun with hydrochloric acid (sold here as toilet cleaner!)

Dining room + complete road map of Africa- just what every house needs!

Our bedroom is basically one big mossy net – Alex designed and made it all by himself – those 4 years of an engineering masters were definitely worth it

Puppy

Our new addition – Pumba – 7 weeks

Alex will tell you he is not excited about having a puppy but this photo says otherwise!

Feb 2008

Last night in Nairobi
The last time with unfrizzy/short hair (something about hot places makes hair grow very fast)

Last evening with our first term co-ordinators . The couple in the middle are Eddie and Rachel (on the team) the 3 girls are theirs and they are missing a 6 month and 6 year old boy

Arrive on a tropical Island in our own plane Very VIP
This was also a classic Alex face!

The LAMP (Language acquisition made practical) group + local language helpers
I personally found the 2 babies especially helpful!

The LAMP group

My lovely language helper Grace

Can you see the likeness?

Praise the Lord for His blessing, no one had seen a leopard for a couple of weeks before this

A Day in the Life... A typical Monday

7.30am Alarm goes off and up we get to make tea for the pr-yer meeting that happens at our house every morning.

8:15-8:45 We read though a Psalm each day and pr-y for the work, the team as well as praise God for what he is doing

9.00 Subby (not real name) - our M house help arrives to start cleaning and cooking - wonderful

9.30am Attempt at some individual language study – if we are honest this is often bumped for more pressing issues like, no electricity or no water coming into the house.

11.30 – Our language helpers arrive, Grace and I usually end up helping Subby cook, this is great language practice for me and also a cooking lesson thrown in!!

2.00 – Off to town for various jobs – boy do I miss Tesco – I have to go to 5 different places to buy the food we will need for the next 3 days!! Also a chance to get some language practice in with real people not just books horray!!!

5.00pm Back home to make food for this evening I feel like I am camping – having to use a gas stove!!

7.00pm Often evenings are free so we watch DVD’s or read.
